THE SUMMER SPOTLIGHT PERFORMANCE
The Union of Power and Grace
Select Sundays at 1pm and Saturdays at 6pm
Like a finely tuned dancers, the most highly trained and athletic horse can create a picture of elegance through movement. Witness the beauty of classical horsemanship at its finest in this lovely 5 segment program. Modelled after performance art from the great classical riding schools of Europe, each segment is careful choreographed and set to music showcasing stallions and their riders at the peak of their training. Following the show, you will gain access to the stallion stable.
Lipizzan Tradition: The Mares and Foals
With the birth of each Lipizzan foal, a commitment to the future of this rare breed is marked. Watch 2-5 month old foals run freely around our performance arena under the watchful eyes of their mothers.
The Solo: All Steps and Movements of the Classical School
Like the top dancers in the ballet school, this horse and rider combination will show all the most advanced under-saddle movements of the classical riding school. Watch for pirouettes, flying changes and harmony and ease between horse and rider.
The Airs Above the Ground/Work in Hand
Former battle maneuvers turned art form, witness sheer power, grace and trainability. These maneuvers take years to develop and have evolved into the following classical forms: the levade, the courbette, and the capriole.
On the Long Rein
An artistic expression of classical dressage, in which the stallion carries himself with great balance through the most advanced movements with his trainer guiding him through his paces. The subtlety of communication between horse and rider and elegance of horse movement is what makes this segment a true art.
The Quadrille: Ballet of the White Stallions
Feel the hoofbeats in the Grand Finale. The culmination of many years of training, these 4 stallions work together in a highly choreographed presentation. The result is the union of power and elegance.
"HOW A LIPIZZAN STALLION LEARNS TO DANCE" PRESENTATION
Select Wednesdays at 1pm
Designed for horse lovers that want to know more…
Our equine dancers may be born with the genetic material to perform their graceful moves, but it takes the intersection of a thoughtful rider and a willing horse to create the great expression of harmony through movement for which the Lipizzan horse is known. Each segment is moderated by our Program Director and takes time to explain the basics of how Lipizzans are raised, trained, and taught to “dance”. See program details below.
The Young Stallion – The Stepping Stones
Early dressage training in the young horse will demonstrate basic gaits (walk, trot, canter) and the riders aids (hands, seat and legs) and how the beginning of communication and muscle building begins.
The Intermediate Horse – Dancing Together
Just like a young dancer after years developing his form, these stallions begin to carry themselves in a lovely posture that enables them to move with control and elegance. This demonstration also shows the coordinated movement between two horses and two riders.
The Advanced Horse – Top Dancers
Stallions are selected to specialize in path to the pinnacle of their training. They may take one of 4 paths: the Long Rein, the Solo Horse, the Airs Above the Ground and the Quadrille. During this segment, we will share demonstrate 2 horses that are reaching the height of their training in these categories. This is where the sport meets the art and the results are magnificent.
