THE SUMMER PERFORMANCE
Celebrating 65 years: Dancing through the Decades! With new music!
Rediscover the Tempel Lipizzans dancing to the soundtrack of our times. From jazz to doowop to patriotic musical arrangements, the combination of horses and these contemporary songs is irresistible and an experience to behold. After 65 years, this cultural legacy remains family-owned and committed to sharing the beauty of horsemanship with all that visit the farm.
Lipizzan Tradition: The Mares and Foals
With the birth of each Lipizzan foal, a commitment to the future of this rare breed is marked. Watch 2-5 month old foals run freely around our performance arena under the watchful eyes of their mothers.
The Pas De Deux: The Dance of Two
Horses moving step by step as mirror images. This is a demonstration of two stallions with riders showing the
beauty and harmony of synchronized movements.
All Steps and Movements of the Classical School
This segment is a tribute to the Olympic sport of dressage, which advocates the classical principles of horsemanship, meaning
the development and preservation of the horse’s natural movements. Classical dressage, as shown at the Olympics and as it will be demonstrated at Tempel Farms, is the culmination of harmony and lightness of movements. Look for harmony,
artistry and a high degree of difficulty in this partnership between horse and rider.
The Airs Above the Ground/Work in Hand
In the airs above the ground, you will see gifted stallions perform maneuvers which were originally developed into medieval battle techniques and then refined to their present art form during the late renaissance. These maneuvers have evolved into the following classical forms: the levade, the courbette, and the capriole.
The Quadrille: Ballet of the White Stallions
The quadrille is often considered the height of classical dressage. It requires great concentration from both
horse and rider in order to perform the coordinated program of classical steps with precision and ease.
At Tempel Farms, the training of these horses represents many collective years of dressage skills by our riders
and trainers and many years of experience by the Lipizzan stallions you will see.

SPECIAL PROGRAM: July 19 and August 16, 2023 at 1 pm
“HOW A LIPIZZAN STALLION LEARNS TO DANCE” PRESENTATION
Designed for all ages that want to know more…
Our equine dancers may be born with the genetic material to perform their graceful moves,
but it takes the intersection of a thoughtful rider and a willing horse to create the great expression of
harmony through movement for which the Lipizzan horse is known.
Each segment is moderated by our Director and takes time to illustrate the basics of how Lipizzans are raised, trained, and taught to “dance”.
Mares and Foals – The Importance of Play
Each session begins with the babies of our herd; Lipizzan foals ranging in age from 2 months to 6 months old will run freely in our performance arena near the watchful eyes of their mothers.
The Young Stallion – The Stepping Stones
Early dressage training in the young horse will demonstrate basic gaits (walk, trot, canter) and the riders aids
(hands, seat and legs) and how the beginning of communication and muscle building begins.
The Intermediate Horse – Dancing Together
Just like a young dancer after years developing his form, these stallions begin to carry themselves in a lovely posture that enables them to move with control and elegance. This demonstration also shows the coordinated movement between two horses and two riders.
The Advanced Horse – Top Dancers
Stallions are selected to specialize in path to the pinnacle of their training. They may take one of 4 paths: the Long Rein, the Solo Horse, the Airs Above the Ground and the Quadrille. During this segment, we will share demonstrate 2 horses that are reaching the height of their training in these categories. This is where the sport meets the art and the results are magnificent.
Question & Answer
An open Q&A session with our Director Esther Buonanno and Head Trainer Bill Clements.
A popular ending to those in all age groups with an active curiosity.
